Maison A Bordeaux, Rem Koolhaas

The Maison a Bordeaux was made for a man who injured in a car accident, which made him a paraplegic. Contrary to the ideas he had before his accident that he wanted a simple house, he now ask Koolhaas to design a complex house that was to be his world. Koolhaas' design can be seen as a compartmentalized house, which creates a different world and atmosphere on the differing 3 levels. Here are my research photos and drawings:

Final Images;
The following images are of my final version for experiment three.

The three images below are of Obama's space within the bridge. The second image is of Obama's private office, separated from the main area by glass and the corridor that is shown in the third image. The top level is an area for Obama to think and contemplate. The beams of the roof converge to the central point (the point of the triangle) on the top level portraying the powerful energy that is attracted to Obama. The corridor's arches are meant to be uplifting whilst also producing a powerful aura.

The next two pictures show Madonna's space and the elevator pathway to it. Madonna's space is supposed to represent her status and the idea that everything she does/ touches brings here more power. this is portrayed by the spiraling and focused pathway that brings everything directly to her.





























The next image shows the meeting space and dining table. This area is meant to represent the clashing Obama's and Madonna's powerful personalities as can be seen by the exterior, yet the inside is large and relatively calm. I made it a neutral colour are it is meant to be a neutral space.

Second Draft of Spaces;

The first images shows an overview of my entire model at the moment. Within the bridge is Obama's space, the mashed space to the right is the meeting space and the spiral is the elevator path which leads to Madonna's space (yet to be built).















This picture shows the inside of Obama's space. (The corridor shown in the first draft is still part of this space and hasn't changed since).














These photos show the elevator shaft which leads from the meeting space to Madonna's space.

My Tip;

My tip is to preselect the texture you want before you subract or add when building a shape in unreal as this will make Unreal Editor automatically build that shape in the texture you have selected. This means you save time by not having to reapply every surface in your design with a new texture and whatever you build is not built in the ugly default texture.

Dinning Table;


Below is the sketchup model of my dining table. The actual table is made from one continuous piece of metal which wraps around the seating position at either end to encase both patrons. The back of the seat will be made of black marble to give and air of power and elegance. This marble also holds up the entire table as it extends downward. The table as a whole is meant to represent a power struggle with the wrap around seating trying to bring the two powerful personalities together.

36 Custom Textures;

The images shown are pages from my moleskin depicting my 36 custom textures that relate to movement. The three words I have chosen are reverberation, fluid and surge.

Drafts of Spaces;


The following images are of my first draft for experiment three.
The first two pictures are of Obama's main space within the bridge.

The next image is of Obama's corridor which will lead to the meeting place.















The below photo shows a view of Madonna's space in the foreground and the "shredded" design of the bridge which i have altered for Obama's space.

Elevators;

Below are images for my elevator for Obama's inside office. The arc shaped pod portrays similarities to the arc hallway through the bridge.

The image below separates the two different materials for the elevator. The shredded part and base is to be made of metal whilst the dome part on the left is to be made from glass.

The second elevator is for Madona's space. this is meant to be a representation of the magnetism she has towards fame and fortune.
